ROBYN Drummond is the Scottish under-12 girls fencing champion.
The young member of Antonine Fencing Club, based in the Hub Centre, Kilbowie Road, won the under-12 girls foil section in the Scottish Fencing Youth Championships 2006/07 at Grangemouth Stadium.
Fellow members of the club who performed well were Scott Young who was third in the under-12 boys foil and second in the under-14 boys sabre competition.
Also competing in the under-10 event was Ross Leggat and in the under-14 boys foil there was a tremendous performance by Alex Pearson who finished fifth in a hotly contested tournament.
In the foil competitions, the fencers hold a sword around 90cm long with a flexible rectangular blade and points are scored when the tip of the blade lands within the torso of the body.
Although the sabre is similar in length and weight, it has a target area from the bend of the hips to the top of the head, meaning the young competitors wear a metal-covered mask.
Two scoring lights of different colours indicate when the fencer has made a hit, while a white light shows when an off-target hit has been made.
Other members who have done well in the last few months include Felicity Arthur and Archie Gray who competed in the Glasgow Open Tournament, held in Hutchesons Grammar school
